It is known primarily from the wine industry, as it has been used as an excellent insulator for alcoholic beverages for centuries. However, over the years, its use has expanded significantly. Today, it is becoming a frequent element of interior design in the form of a cork wall or an underlay for panels. It also works well in offices and schools in the form of cork boards or simply as a decorative motif in many homes.

Cork oak - an inconspicuous tree that provides cork

Cork oak, a tree that is the only source of natural cork, occurs mainly on the Iberian Peninsula, although it also grows in France and Italy, it also occupies small areas of countries located in the North of the African continent. It is characterized by thick and wrinkled bark, which, when properly harvested, will become a material for the production of bottle corks, interior decoration and thermal insulation in construction in the future. Debarking the tree does not harm the plant, because only specialized workers do this, without affecting the internal tissues of the tree. The rich resource of oaks provides many materials which, after thermal treatment, are distributed all over the world.

The wide use of cork, lasting uninterruptedly since antiquity, is associated with its specific properties. It has a number of advantages that make it an irreplaceable natural resource in many cases.
